Dining Table Culture

The most famous lesson that should be followed not only when visiting a restaurant, but also at home, is often not followed well enough. That is, speaking loudly, including munching and slurping while eating. Also, speaking with one\’s mouth full is offensive to those around one. The same goes for sniffing, using toothpicks without covering one\’s mouth, etc. It is very important to observe cultural eating rules in front of children. By setting an example, we can give our children a good foundation for life. Most of us observe that it is inappropriate to put our elbows on the table. And sometimes we unintentionally bump our elbows against our table mates. This can be prevented by sitting upright in a chair. Sitting upright in a chair not only keeps your clothes from wrinkling, but it also makes it easier to breathe at the table.

Children learn how to hold cutlery properly from a young age. They learn to point forks at the plate, not to lick knives, not to flick them unnecessarily, and to make sure that only one-third of the cutlery protrudes from their hands. Many of us need to review the rules of proper cutlery use before attending a celebration. Several course meals are served. And the same number of cutlery will be placed on the table. There is one important rule in this situation that many of us do not encounter very often. It is that any mistakes should not be embarrassing. Always start eating with the cutlery farthest from the plate.

Conversation at the table is another major topic. It is said that we do not talk at the dinner table, but that is not likely to be the case with a large group of people at a banquet. What is important, however, are the topics discussed at the table. Controversial topics should never be avoided. Discussions about politics should be avoided, especially if there are differing opinions. Also, when eating with more than one person, the speed of the meal must be maintained. Do not gulp down the food, but slow down a bit. And do not look at your fellow diners\’ plates. You can toast with wine or champagne. Wine and champagne should be held by the stem to prevent the drinks from getting too warm. Hard liquor and beer shots are not a knock. A full glass is just raised. It is bad practice these days to leave cell phones on the table. Cell phones should never be kept in pockets.
