There was once no such thing as a cell phone. Telephones, formerly commonly referred to as landlines, were only found in a few homes. The major disadvantages of telephones were that they were very expensive, the call quality was poor, and they were not portable. It must have been very interesting to invent the telephone at that time, because it is not possible to find a telephone anywhere nowadays. It must have been very interesting to invent the telephone back then, because there was no such thing as a print connection, which is ubiquitous today. Therefore, telephones were really big and very expensive. The telephone switchboards were huge and located in several halls. Even though they were so big, the call quality was really terrible.
Some exchanges even had switchboards that manually transferred calls so that they could be placed overseas or in another province. Everything was incredibly slow and took an incredibly long time. There were a lot of people and it wasn\’t working very well. Now, with one computer, it doesn\’t take as long, it can be transferred quickly, and the quality is much better. Before this technology was invented, there were many successes and failures in research.
As time went on and print connections began to become more popular, everything began to shrink. Things like transmitters were invented, which allowed cellular operators to send out signals, which in turn allowed us to talk on the phone to each other.
The invention of the cell phone was not easy. To make our jobs easier and less difficult, cell phones have to handle a lot of things. It used to be that to make just one phone call, you needed a huge hall full of employees to handle the traffic. This was very costly and time consuming. If it worked the same way it does today, operator services would have to pay much higher salaries for all of their employees. We will eventually find out if they develop even better technology than we have now, or if the phones change and become something completely different.
